Notes & Things I've Made

Hi, I'm Kyosuke. I like making things - sometimes with code, sometimes with my hands. This is just a simple place where I write down what I've been working on.

Currently Working On

CoffeeHub.jp - Building a platform to give anyone access to top experts in various industries.

Signal - An AEO tracker.

Some Digital Things I've Made

Kasamo - Built a Duolingo-style financial education app using Flutter, specifically designed for the Japanese audience. Gamified learning modules to make financial literacy more engaging and accessible.

Spirofy - Made a website that turns your Spotify playlists into spirograph art. The shapes change based on how danceable or energetic your music is. Used React and p5.js for the visual stuff.

FlyerApp - Started this in college to help students find campus events. Over a third of the student population downloaded it, which was pretty wild to see something I built actually being used by people on campus.

Music Directory - Built a searchable database of songs with graphs and charts. You can create playlists and see how different tracks compare. Used a mix of Python and JavaScript.

Finternz - Worked with a team to build a job board specifically for tech internships. Hit tens of thousands of monthly active users, which taught me a lot about scaling and working with other developers. Managing state with Redux across a user base that large was definitely a learning experience.

Baseball Data Viz - Spent way too much time making interactive charts about baseball statistics over the decades. D3.js is both amazing and frustrating.

Scheme Interpreter - Built a complete interpreter in C from scratch. Tokenizer, parser, the whole thing.

The Plugged App - Helped build a community platform for connecting artists and creators. We raised over $100k in funding through Kickstarter, which was incredible to see people believe in what we were building. Used Ionic to make it work on both web and mobile.

Some Physical Things I've Made

Walnut & Cherry Coffee Table - Made using butterfly joints to connect the walnut and cherry pieces. The grain patterns line up perfectly where the woods meet.

Silver Ring - Combined casting, stone setting, and fabricating techniques. Cast the main piece, set a small stone, then fabricated the details by hand.

Casted Wrist Wear - Made a bracelet using casting and fabricating techniques. Experimented with different textures and finishes in the metal.

Japanese Walnut Lamp - Used steam bending in a steambox to curve the walnut pieces. Also experimented with heat contracting fabric for the shade.

Music Box - Arduino-powered box with 6 different rooms that activate based on the sentiment of whatever music is playing. Each room responds to different emotional qualities in the songs.

Japanese Tea Set - Made pieces in different Japanese ceramic styles - Oribe, Raku, Shino wares. Fired them in both wood and gas kilns to get different surface effects.

Plaster Sculpture Installation - Made a bunch of spherical white plaster sculptures and spread them out on bright green turf. The contrast between the organic white forms and artificial green created an interesting visual field.

Woodworking Projects - Love making chopping boards, boxes, plates, bowls, and pretty much anything I can shape by hand. There's something satisfying about working with wood - each piece of grain is different and tells its own story.
